Return to the land of the living

It's been WAY too long since I've written on here but I attribute it to morning sickness, Bryan being out of town for the past 3 weeks, and the rain that's made Owen and I stir crazy. I'm finally feeling better and even though Bryan's not back untill Friday, I think we may just survice :) Here's what's been going on lately.

Today was Owen's parent/teacher conference at school and they said he's doing great. He isn't a big fan of writing or drawing so I'm thinking he may have some Handwriting without Tears in his future. They also said that he's a bit of a perfectionist and if he thinks he won't do well at something, he doesn't want to try. Not surprising at all since I see the same things here at home. He's made some great friends, and Brett comes over often to hang out for the day. They are an interesting pair but always have a good time.

Owen also started a new tumbling class yesterday. In the past he's taken one's where there is parent participation but in this one we just watch. Mimi and I went last night and he was SO outgoing which is a new side of him. He was very much the class clown and made immediate friends with another little boy who seemed to share his sense of humor. I need to take some pics but didn't want to be the dork parent who showed up to the first class with the camera :)

It's been unusually cold here lately and below is a pic of Bryan and Owen at a festival here the other weeekend. They've been spending lots of quality time together on the weekends in between trips while I lay on the couch and feel miserable!

I go on Friday to find out how pregnant I am and it couldn't come any sooner. I'm guessing around 10 weeks but I'm hoping I'm wrong and am further along!

Yawn.............

Not much going on at our house this week and Mimi and Popi have my camera so here's a pic of Owen when he was around 18 months. He used to use his middle finger for EVERYTHING and I had this fear that he would end up being the weird kid that pointed to stuff with his middle finger while all of the other kids laughed. Thankfully, he's outgrown it :)

Bryan is out of town all week, Owen's still working on staying in bed at night and I feel horrible. Pretty much a recipe for disaster but thankfully Owen has school tomorrow and I'm not working. My first ultrasound is on the 1st so hopefully we'll have a better idea then if the baby is good and if so when I'm due.

You're having a what????????

I'm sure most people who know us would have never thought there would be another Hulshof running around but lo and behold I'm PREGNANT!!!! We're very surprised and happy and Owen actually is really excited about it. He said that he'll name the baby Furberry but won't play with it when it cries. I love the idea of Owen having a sibling even if they'll be about 5 years apart. And of course, I just gave away a bunch of our baby stuff.

The funny part is that I have no idea when the baby will be due and the doctor won't see us for another 3 weeks. I'm not good at waiting and this is killing me!!!! Say a prayer that everything is good and I'll let you know if I ever figure out when I'm due :)

Owen's first visit to Aggieland

Sadly, the trip didn't even get him within a mile of the A&M campus. BUT, we got to spend the whole day with Amy, Emma and Quinn. The kids had a great time together and for once they actually got along the entire day. Before we both moved, Owen and Emma saw each other every day and I think their relationship got to be more like siblings, replete with all of the fighting that it entails. So I guess absence really does make the heart grow fonder.

They took us all over town (which doesn't take long) and I think the best part was getting to paint the car at the Children's Museum in Bryan. On the way home, I tried to get Owen to go to sleep because it was his first day back at school today. I never thought I would see the day that Owen would sleep in (he spent the first 3 years of his life getting up at 6:30 at the latest) but lately he hasn't been waking up until after 8. But instead of sleeping we had a LONG conversation about all of his imaginary friends. I'm going to have to get him to tell me about them again so that I can get it on here for him to read when he's older :)

Merry New Year!!!!!!!

We spent New Years Eve back in Pearland which is suprising I know :) The weather was great during the afternoon and by nighttime there was trash everywhere from the poppers and about 15 riding toys out there. Owen had a great time playing with Lauren, her cousin Cooper and her neighbor Ty. That night was FREEZING however Bryan and Joel ended up sitting in the hot tub until 4 am. Hmmmmm...........

Lauren got a lifesized pony named Butterscoth. She and Owen loved it though I think the adults found it a bit creepy when you would walk by the room and it would start moving. As always, it was great to see our friends!

As far as traditions for New Years, we ate some black eyed peas last night and Bryan and I had cabbage rolls for dinner which is a tradition on my side of the family.

Guess who just found out about Star Wars??

Owen is obsessed with Star Wars these days. He watches all of the movies, begs to play Lego Star Wars on the Wii from the moment he wakes up and he talked me into the Star Wars cook book at the library. The pic is of a Double Dog and it's supposed to look like Darth Maul's double lightsaber. We also made the Darth Malt which was also a hit due to the abundance of sugar.

One thing that amazes me about Owen lately is how well he remembers things. He's only watched the Star Wars movies a few times but he knows who everyone is and how they're related. He even recognizes them on the Wii as little Star Wars people. Maybe I'm getting old but I have to ask him when I can't remember something :)

Aggies!?#)($*#)

We went to watch the Aggie bowl game at the Summerville's and despite a promising start, we lost. Baby Luke is 10 months old and got tons of toys for Christmas. I think Owen played better with them than most of his own stuff at home. They fought over taking a ride on the little airplane that Luke is riding in the picture. The Hulshof family all piled into a queen bed to spend the night and between Owen's snoring and Bryan random sleep talking, I don't think I actually slept that night!
